Baptist Church of the North in Mauritius (BCN) - Our History

Our church has grown from a small group of people who wanted to commit their lives to Jesus Christ and grow in Him through the study and application of God's Word. That group first met together as a church in 1989 in a house. From there, it moved to a hotel and then a rotation of homes, growing out of another rented house into its present location. Through the years it has benefited from a dynamic mix of people: some Mauritians or long-term residents in Mauritians, and other who have come to share their gifts with the church for a shorter period.

The Baptist work in Mauritius began in 1977 with one missionary couple being sent from the Southern Baptist Convention of the US. Since then a number of other missionaries have helped the work, together with Mauritian pastors. Today there are five Baptist churches in Mauritius, meeting in Pereybere, Goodlands, Curepipe, Highlands and Rose Belle. The various churches also currently have other outreaches and home groups which we hope will develop into more churches as more and more people come to know the Living God we serve.
